19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.
The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents his maiden trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of that year.
Victory also means the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 various events.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.
But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved service.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, took control to force a final set.
Moutet saved 4 early break points in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
